It turns out that rotating structures have some unique features that can be exploited to isolate otherwise hidden signal-components when suitable model-based signal processing methods are employed. Two main features of rotating structures become useful for model-based signal processing and identification: (i) The inherent polar cyclic–symmetry of typical machines and (ii) Rotation which creates relative motion with respect to the foundation or sensors.
